Adding Oil to Your Hydraulic Toe Jack

Whenever you need to lift a heavy object such as your car, the first instrument that comes to your mind is a hydraulic jack because they are the only tool that is capable of doing such a thing. Almost all automotive repair shops have them since they are standard tools in these establishments. You might also find them in the trunk of just about every car that you see because they can prove to be quite useful during emergency situations such as a flat tire. Hydraulic jacks can be purchased in most automotive stores and hardware stores, and they require regular oil changes so they can function normally.
 

Before you add some more oil to your hydraulic toe jack, make sure that you have it fully prepared. Check for any signs of damage before you proceed so that everything can go smoothly without any problems. The jack has to be completely lowered before you do anything and if necessary, try to turn its release valve counterclockwise so you can lower it down.

Each hydraulic has its own oil filler port and it will be up to you to locate it. It can usually be found in the tool’s reservoir. The reservoir looks like a flat cylinder that is mounted on the jack’s flat base and the oil filler port can be found at the bottom of the reservoir itself. The oil filler port should have a plug or a screw on it, be sure to remove it. Once it has been removed, fill the port with some oil while aiming the oil filler can’s nozzle directly at it.

Once the oil starts to leak you should immediately stop pouring. Clean up any excess oil that might have spilled while you were filling up the filler port and then have the screw or plug replaced. Make sure to close up the oil filler port on your hydraulic toe jack once you are done. Never leave it open afterwards because it could cause the oil to spill out and there is a chance that some foreign objects might make their way in there and cause potential damage to your jack.
